DEFINITIONS


Before you begin traveling as an airline employee, it is important that you understand a few key definitions regarding pass travel.

ATO. Airport Ticket Office

Boarding Priority. The order in which you are boarded. You will be boarded based on your hire date within your pass classification.

CBA. Collective bargaining agreement. The five labor groups are: Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), Association of Flight Attendants (AFA), International Association of Machinists – Clerical and Mechanics (IAM), Transport Workers Union (TWU) and Communications Section.

CTO. City Ticket Office

Codeshare Service. A flight operated by an airline other than the one that markets the service.

Confirmed. Travel for which reservations may be made and confirmed in advance. Available for Company business, emergency, and on 10% discounted revenue tickets (POS, PS, NRPS).

Connection. A city or destination at which you must stop in order to get to your final destination from your origination city due to flight schedules. For example, if you are traveling from LAX-LIH, the only way to get to your destination may be through HNL.

Company Business (COBUS). Employees who are traveling on business. Travel is at a higher boarding priority than personal travel.

Crew Rest Seat. Passenger seats blocked for use by crewmembers on flights of specified duration. Designated crew rest seats may not be assigned to revenue or non-revenue passengers.

EasyWrite Ticket/Pass. Form 0041 which you fill out prior to traveling as a non-revenue on HA.

EasyWrite Program. HA’s pass travel program.

Eligible Dependent. An unmarried financially dependent child or step-child under age 24, and an unmarried disabled child of any age who is eligible for Pass Travel.

Eligible Employee. A full-time employee with 3 months of continuing service or part-time employee with 6 months of continuing service.

Eligible Family Members. Term used to refer to Spouse, Eligible Dependents or Parents.

Embargo. A season or period during which a specified type of travel is not allowed.

Employee Reservations Desk. Non-revenue reservations service for HA and OA employees to meal list for Pass Travel.

Employee Travel Card (ETC). ETCs are issued to Eligible Employees to use with the EasyWrite Program.

F or F Class. First class of service.

Friendship Travel Program (FTP). Travel program established to allow non-airline persons to travel on scheduled service flights operated by Hawaiian Airlines.

HA or the Company. Hawaiian Airlines, Inc.

Interline Discount (ID). Reduced fares for travel on other airlines. In most cases, discounts are a flat percentage off of a published fare. For travel on some carriers, the discount is a flat rate service charge (see Service Charge Pass).

Meal Listing. For space available travel to request that your name be added to a flight for catering planning purposes.

Non-Revenue. A pass issued that is free of charge; includes all Pass Travel, business travel for which no money is collected.

Non-Revenue Listing. Airport listing of revenue and/or pass travelers standing by for a specific flight. Travelers appear in order of boarding priority based on pass travel classification and seniority date.

Not Self-Ticketing. A reduced rate ticket (75%, 90%, etc.) for travel on another airline which can be written only by that airline’s ticket office.

OA. Other airline.

Origin city. The airport where you start your travel.

Parents. Parents are defined as mother, father (natural or adoptive), stepmother or stepfather, but no more than two parents may be nominated.

Pass Bureau. Office where interline pass information may be obtained and where such passes may be requested and/or issued.

Pass Travel. A ticket or authorization issued for non-revenue travel, with a service charge or set fee established by each individual carrier (if applicable), that provides travel for the routing and travel classification indicated.

Pass Travel Program. Pass and reduced rate transportation on HA.

Pass Traveler. Eligible Employees, Eligible Dependents or Parents traveling on a non-revenue or reduced rate pass.

Passenger Name Record (PNR). Reservation record.

Personal Discounts. A discount provided for travel or shipping of packages not connected with the business of HA or the personal business of the employee, family members or any third party they may represent. The use of personal discounts for travel and/or cargo privileges for personal or third party profit, or where such usage reduces revenue that the public would otherwise pay, is prohibited.

PS. Travel for which a booking (PS0-PS7) or meal listing (PS8-PS9) may be made. PS bookings are subject to bumping, except for PS2 and above.

PSG. People Services Group.

Rainbow Fare. Travel on any HA interisland and LAX/LAS/LAX routes for a service charge on the first day of employment with HA ID.

Reduced Rate Cargo. Space available cargo transportation at 75% off the published rate.

Reduced Rates. Reserved space and space available discounts. You may get a percentage off the full fare, usually 75% or 90%, and your status is space available or standby and you cannot make a reservation. A 50% positive space travel is ONLY for Company Business.

Retiree. An employee who meets the eligibility requirements of HA for retiree Pass Travel.

Retiree Award. Awards given to employees at retirement which allows travel at a certain boarding priority.

RTC. Retiree Travel Card.

Sabre®. Reservations system used by HA.

Segment. A take-off and landing. Example: HNL-LAX is one segment; HNL-OGG-LAX is two segments

Self-Ticketing. A reduced rate ticket (75%, 90%, etc.) for travel on another airline which written by any HA ATO/CTO or Interline Rate Desk.

Service Awards. Awards given to employees which allows travel at a certain boarding priority.

Service Charge Pass. A flat charge assessed by other airlines for Pass Travel.

Service Charge Waived. Trip for which no service charge is assessed to the Eligible Employee or Retiree.
     NOTE: Fees and taxes may apply on some routes.

Service Charges. A charge assessed for Pass Travel.

Space Available (SA). Discount or non-revenue travel on a stand-by basis for which no confirmed booking may be made. See also PS.

Spouse. The legally married wife or husband of an Eligible Employee.

STARS. HA’s system which stores information for travel for Eligible Employee, Eligible Dependent and Parent.

Surcharge. A charge for travel in addition to a service charge for special accommodation.

U.S. Transportation Tax. A type of sales tax assessed by the U.S. government. The tax on domestic travel is based on a percentage of the amount paid for a ticket plus a flat rate dollar amount assessed per flight segment. For international travel, a flat rate dollar amount is charged for passengers both departing and arriving the U.S.

Y or Y Class. Coach class of services.
